Property managers fear debt disputes, slip-and-fall liability
(CHICAGO) – The Institute of Real Estate Management has released a survey of legal issues confronting today’s property managers found that of most concern were debt collection, slip-and-fall disputes and frivolous lawsuits.
According to IREM, 69 percent of members surveyed said debt collection and slip-and-fall disputes were their biggest headaches, followed by 44 percent citing frivolous lawsuits.
Liability for crimes committed on a property also is of growing concern, IREM said.
Asked where they believed future problems would come from, members listed the Fair Housing arena as a key worry, specifically in the areas of disabled housing and advertising and marketing.
